Open 3-5pm daily

Artists Liorah Tchiprout and Ben Westley Clarke will be artists in residence at the Crypt Gallery, Euston, 3rd-8th August 2021.

They will be using the space to build new bodies of drawings, using tableaux of puppets, props, and the architectural drama of the crypt. Members of the public are invited to view the work in progress from 3-5pm each day.
Liorah Tchiprout b.1992 studied at University of Brighton, Camberwell and Bezalel School of Art and Design, Jerusalem. She was recently selected for New Contemporaries. Her work is concerned with belonging, girlhood and the theatrical. Her work is deeply rooted in the practice of drawing. She works across the mediums of drawing, painting, monotype and etching. She builds puppet models to work from, building her own universe of women from which to pull images.

Ben Westley Clarke b.1990 studied at the Slade School of Art, the New York Studio School and the Royal Drawing School. He has recently returned from Madrid, having lived there for three years after receiving the Richard Ford Award, which gave him permission to draw in the Prado Museum galleries and archives. Spanning influences including Folk Art, Medieval Art, Spanish painting, modernism and social realism, Ben’s practice interweaves painting, drawing, tattooing and printmaking. Humorous and heavy simultaneously, it focuses on drawing as a way to document people and places.
