Alicja Żuk is a multidisciplinary fine artist, working primarily with paint, fibres, natural and foraged pigments and found objects.
“This residency will be my second time at the Crypt, where I will be playing with the space as curatorial and artistic practice. I will be creating/ installing/ wedging temporary looms and use the week to weave, write and reflect on the process and its relation to residing in and being activated by the space. I weave with upcycled fibres and yarns- dyed by hand using foraged pigments derived from south east London’s Thames-side grazing marshes, soil, bark, root, leaf and domestic ingredients. Weaving is slow, ritualistic and repetitive, but also leaves room for experimentation and intuition-led decisions. The residency will be an opportunity for dialogue between this relationship and closeness of self and environment within artmaking.”
On Saturday evening, the Crypt will be transformed into a site for object searching. By candlelight, viewers will be invited to walk through the space, looking for objects, piles, encounters, treasures and reveals- an exercise in looking, as you would by a sea or river shore, where many of the objects I work with are sourced. A limited amount of handprinted maps will be available, as a guide. This will be a ticketed event- more information available in @a.licjazuk bio.
