Crypt Residency 2016

October 10, 2016-2:00 pm - October 16, 2016-5:00 pm

10-16 October
Opening times:  2-5pm daily

Katarina Rankovic
An MA student of Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, I am a London-based artist working in jealous drawings, a one-woman empathy circus, a novel about a ‘lethargic line’ and fake Youtube tutorials. Above all, I am concerned with wriggling into my own work and wearing it like a second skin. I am interested in creating a performative reworking of my novel in the Crypt, which may be briefly characterised as a combination of Abott’s Flatland (a novel about a world inhabited by 2D shapes) and Alice in Wonderland.

Loraine Monk
My work is inspired by history and by the sense of place and community.

My starting point in the Crypt is exploring pigments that I could make into paint mediums from the dust from the floor and walls of the crypt that could be used in the creation of new images.

Eeva Juutinen
I’m a dance artist, performer and choreographer, originally from Finland. I’m currently developing to two different projects another one a solo and the other a group work. Both combine physical dance performance, video and soundscapes. I’d be especially interested to develop the solo project during this residency together with my sound/video designer. It is based on ideas of normality and uniqueness. Using the idea of breaking or falling as part of it. The working title for the piece is called Private Illusions. I’d be very interested to have the possibility to develop this solo piece in site specific settings not necessary in dance studio.

Karin Gullino
My work this week is entitled: “557”. The piece is inspired and will be created based on its surrounding and it will explore the relationship between the Crypt Gallery and the 557 people buried there, as well as my own feelings involved while producing the work to pay tribute to those 557 people
