Bodies in Action Crypt Gallery Dance Residency – enGendering Contemporary Dance
May 20-5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This event will be an in-process contemporary dance performance showing of approximately 15 minutes or so commencing at the top of each hour from 17:00-20:00 on both the 20th and 21st of May, 2021 (Thursday and Friday).
During the creation period at The Crypt Gallery, inspiration will be taken directly from historical aspects of this building and transformed into an immersive work that will be shown in groups to the public. This will be performed and choreographed by Julian Nichols and he will invite people through the space with him to explore the rustic architecture that has directly influenced his creative choices.
This event is free of charge and limited to 10 people per showing due to COVID restrictions.
Everyone involved in the showing (excluding the performer) must maintain social distancing while wearing a mask while inside The Crypt Gallery.
A bit about us:
Bodies in Action ~ enGendering Contemporary Dance based in east London is a nonprofit dance organisation founded by dancer and choreographer Julian Nichols. As a company, we strive to provide audiences and communities with engaging contemporary dance by hosting different classes, workshops, organized discussions, and performances. We aim to bridge the gap by including and exposing those who identify along or on the ends of the gender spectrum by challenging conventional gender roles that are the dominant factor of contemporary dance now. As physical bodies, we share our perspective through the lens of a simple, yet revolutionary idea: we stand and encourage people to live in their authentic skin without succumbing to societal pressures of conformity. The gender spectrum, as well as sexual orientation, has become polarizing in recent times, yet we, in the end, are all human. To this end, Bodies in Action promotes equality among all despite gender identity, race, age, sexual orientation, body type, and physical ability through both creations and diversity of the company.
