Between the Sun & the Sea by Atlas Descending

September 5, 2017-3:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Theatre companies 27 degrees and Atlas Descending take over the Crypt Gallery vaults for a three-day festival offering a contemporary take on classic myths. Expect immersive theatre performances, dance, circus, puppetry and interactive audience experiences.

Shows
Between the Sun & the Sea by Atlas Descending:
Tuesday 5 September : 3-4pm & 7-8pm
A young man loses his home and is stuck in limbo.
A boy locked in a tower builds wings to escape.
Inspired by the myth of Icarus, the debut work from Atlas Descending explores imagination as a means of escape. Just as Icarus built wings and flew towards the sun, our hero dreams of flying away.
Medusa by 27 degrees – Friday 8 & Saturday 9 September – 7-8.10pm
She was a monster. He cut off her head.
This is the Medusa we remember – but who was the woman behind the myth?
27 degrees present a new, immersive experience revisiting the story of Medusa through intimate and sensory theatre, contemporary dance, shadow puppetry and sound installations. Explore underground tunnels at night and follow the path of the many Medusas that live among us. A contemporary take on a well-known tale, examining what it takes for a woman to be considered a threat.
