SHADOW STONE
From her studio in the hills outside Lucca JENNY MCINTOSH works in marble from the Massa Rosa and Carrara mines of Northern Tuscany
Striking marble heads have been worked on in semi darkness under strong light. They have no narrative but are conduits for the contemplation and self reflection on the viewer’s own internal shadows – It is important to her for the work to be exhibited in low light so the shadow is seen as part of the piece. Her work is free carved and closely informed by her relationship with her medium. “drawing in the stone is very important in my practice, sculpture for me is about always looking at the edge of the form – that is where the line is and where you can draw a piece into the world”
McIntosh grew up in Calcutta and her influences are drawn from ancient Egypt, Cycladic sculptures and the ancient near and far east.
Mcintosh now divides her time between London and Italy where she has her studio.
