Entry: Free Joe Boyd is a mixed media artist. His work explores the transformation of everyday objects into immersive, abstract art. Using unorthodox tools like scanners, microscopes, and projectors, he repurposes household items and overlooked materials into striking visual pieces that challenge traditional notions of medium and method. Documenting his process on film, Joe blends narration and visuals to bring viewers into the heart of his work. This approach has resonated with audiences around the world, with his videos amassing over 100 million views and cultivating a community of more than 350,000 followers across social media platforms. Joe creates mixed media works on paper, canvas, in sculptural installations and through digital processes. Through this approach, he elevates ordinary items and overlooked materials to remind viewers that beauty exists in the most mundane and unexpected places. Joe has transformed hundreds of found objects into distinctive artworks, each piece inviting diverse audiences to engage with familiar materials in new and meaningful ways, both online and exhibited in spaces around the world. The ‘Strange Fascinations’ exhibition presents an opportunity to unveil a new body of work in a unique setting, turning the space itself into part of the creative experience. By showing in a non‑traditional venue, Joe aims to challenge the viewers expectations and invite them to engage with art in a fresh and unexpected way. The unconventional character of the location will echo the materials and themes of the pieces on display, creating a dialogue between environment and artwork.
