Black Sun, Red Gold: The Shape of Becoming” is an interdisciplinary body of work using alchemy as a language of metamorphosis within the psyche and self.
Drawing from the alchemical stages of Nigredo (darkness, dissolution), albedo (purification, clarity), and rubedo (illumination, integration), it explores psychological evolution as a lived, sensory experience. These stages are approached not just as metaphor, but as embodied truths; reflecting cycles of grief, healing, and rebirth. Curated by Anticlone Gallery’s founder, Sade English, the exhibition presents interdisciplinary works at the intersection of textile, moving image, and ritual gesture. Suspended fabric, tactile materials, and visceral painting create an immersive environment where hidden depths can be explored and light emerges through introspection. Directed by Freya Nash, the film and performance elements introduce somatic movement, shaping the emotional and psychological dimensions of change. Masks worn by the performer act as both literal and symbolic vessels for the evolving self, shifting between fragmented identities where inner experience meets external expression. Together, these works form an unfolding portrait of the self, oscillating between self and other, past and future. They offer a space to encounter transformation in its full complexity as dark and intimate as it is radiant, and redemptive.
