Working with a sense of place and memory, I use found, upcycled and foraged materials and plants to explore, re-contain and embody personal and shared stories.
‘Burnt Umber, Pink Ochres and the Red Moon’ is a body of work in progress, comprising primarily of oil paintings, and a few drawings and baskets, which speak in a language among themselves, through symbols of: sycamore seeds, flowers, bones, shells, leaf structures, landscapes, husks, natural pigments and miscellaneous objects.
Exhibiting these unfinished images at the Crypt Gallery is an attempt to retain their unresolved aspects, as autonomous records of ideas being born and growing, while using the space to see the works in conversation for the first time. Between nooks, corners and corridors of the crypt, the pieces serve as small moments of encounter.
