SUMMARY:Enrich Me with Your Difference - photographic exhibition Thu 08 Oct | St Pancras Church
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition by award-winning humanitarian photographer\, Jonathan Banks\, that celebrates a career of working with charitable organisations.\n\n \n\nTime & Location\n\n\nWithing the main body of St Pancras Church\, Euston Rd.\, London NW1 2BA\, UK\n\n\n\nOther dates\n1-13 October\nOpening times vary - please check the St Pancras Church Euston website here\n\n\nAbout the Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo make a difference in the world always appears overwhelming as there is often a belief that our efforts will only go so far. What we have to recognise is that we are not alone in wanting to make a difference and by trying we may inspire others.\n\n \n“Enrich me with your difference” is a photography exhibition by the award-winning humanitarian photographer\, Jonathan Banks\, that celebrates a career of working with charitable organisations.\n\n \nJonathan studied under the prolific artist John Blakemore and graduated from the University of Derby with a BA hons in Photographic Studies. He cut his teeth in editorial photography with the British broadsheet newspapers and also worked with a number of charitable organisations. Two decades later his humanitarian photography strives to raise awareness for the issues that charities are trying to resolve.  His photographs capture the work that they are doing\, and often have the dual purpose of supporting advocacy for policy change and generating revenue for them.\n\n \nHis international experience includes working in security impaired areas\, where his communication skills and sensitivity allow him to capture subjects with dignity and safety\, in the most challenging situations.\n\n \nPhotography allows us the opportunity of sharing what we see\, to show inaccessible places\, people\, and moments of time\, allowing the viewer insights about situations they may not have personally encountered.\n\n \nJonathan’s photographs could be seen as a way of offering healing or reparation to those less fortunate. He is not just looking for sympathy\, but rather engagement and empathy\, by empowering the viewer with a belief that they can make a difference to the people and situations viewed in the photographs.\n\n \n“Enrich me with your difference” is an old African proverb from Togo that translates as whenever you encounter something new - whether it is a person\, place\, or experience - you should combine all the differences with your knowledge\, understanding and emotional response\, to build\nsomething positive.\n\n \nAbout Jonathan Banks\nJonathan Banks is an award-winning British photographer with over twenty-five years of experience collaborating with charitable organisations and NGOs documenting important humanitarian campaigns with human rights concerns.\n\n \nBanks has photographed in over eighty different countries\, documenting subjects as diverse as mask dancing festivals in Burkina Faso\, the effects of the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine\, and the aftermath of 9/11 in New York. Banks’ photography regularly features in international editorial publications and is the visual content of several books. His photographs have been widely recognised by numerous awards including FOTO8\, Humanity Photo Awards\, The Sony World Photography awards\, and the Siena International Photography Awards.\n\n \nBanks has exhibited his photography globally with notable shows at United Nations in Geneva\, The Phillips Collection in Washington DC\, at the European Parliament in Brussels\, on the Times Square screens in New York\, as part of the Exposure Awards at the Louvre in Paris and at the “Beauty of Humanity” Art Basel festival in Miami.\n\n \nBanks studied under the prolific artist John Blakemore and graduated from the University of Derby with a BA hons in Photographic Studies. He is now part of the mentorship alumni programme and supports the University in other ways with his work. Outside of this he has given artist talks and run workshops about his photography.\n\n \nHis work has been described by one critic as “responsible documentary photography that lacks the predatory or voyeuristic perspective that often plagues the genre.”\n\n \nwww.jonathanbanks.co.uk\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:HOLD SPACE POETRY FESTIVAL - 1-5 OCTOBER 2026
DESCRIPTION:THE CRYPT GALLERY & MAKE POETRY WEIRD AGAIN PRESENT HOLD SPACE POETRY FESTIVAL: FROM THE DEPTHS 1 to 5 October 2026 PAY WHAT YOU CAN DAY TICKETS Part of Bloomsbury Festival 2026\, its 20th anniversary year From the depths\, we came together to make poetry. Last Holy Week sixteen poets held space in a crypt beneath London. Seven nights. They stayed\, they listened\, they made something together that had no name until it was over. Now we come back down. To feel alive again. To prepare for the wisdom of winter. This ticket is your day pass to the crypt\, 10am to 6pm\, on any day of the festival. You dont need it but by donating you help pay the poets!   WHAT IS HAPPENING DOWN THERE Twelve resident poets have the run of the space for five days. They are writing in it\, recording in it\, and performing work in the evening that did not exist that morning. The residency is not a retreat. It is an exposure. Prompts are given daily. Bring a notebook and the stone will do the rest. A collective zine is built page by page across the week\, risograph printed in two colours\, and given away free at the closing on Monday 5 October. The podcast records live in the crypt through the week. WORKSHOPS Each one is a separate ticket\, most of them pay what you can. Book individually. They are small and they fill. Thu 1 Oct · Penance Poetry Workshop Thu 1 Oct · The Sacred Space Within Fri 2 Oct · Rediscovering Joy In A Crypt Sat 3 Oct · Trash Fire Poetry: Writing From The Ashes Sat 3 Oct · Disasterpieces Sun 4 Oct · Protest Poetry: Defamiliarising Violence Sun 4 Oct · Saying The Unsayable Mon 5 Oct · Penance Poetry Workshop Mon 5 Oct · Stevie's Scary Stories Sharing Circle   THE OPEN MICEvery evening\, in the crypt\, on its own separate ticket. Come to share. Come sober. Come as you are.  SPECIAL EVENTS:Hold Space Gathering Saturday 3 October  7.30-9pmA poetry ceremony to mark the mid point of the Hold Space free poetry festival. Poets\, performers\, and music come together to cross the threshold. This is not a gig. It is not a reading. It is a ceremony of witness.Neil Bartlett OBE premieres new work upstairs in St Pancras New Church. He will not stand there alone. St Pancras is a church carried on caryatids\, stone figures holding the roof up with their own bodies\, so we are giving him sixteen queer poets and four musicians of his own. The work of one of our elders\, borne on the shoulders of the ones who came after because of him. Separate ticket\, pay what you can up to £10. All welcome. WHY BUY A DAY TICKET To be in the room. To keep us going\, because this festival is crowdfunded and the crypt is not free. To remind yourself that there is poetry to be made and it is in your veins. Because something is calling you from the depths. Come make poems. Come speak poems. Come find poetry. BEFORE YOU COME The Crypt Gallery is reached by a staircase and there is no step free access. If stairs are difficult for you\, talk to us before you book and we will be honest about what the building can and cannot do. It is underground and stone built and it is genuinely cold\, even in October. Bring layers and plan to keep them on. It is consecrated ground\, and the remains of 557 people are still down there. We do not pretend otherwise.  Treat them the way you would want yours treated. Access needs\, questions\, anything at all: nols@makepoetryweirdagain.com
