DESCRIPTION:Michelangelo Galliani - Underground Fever\n4 - 14 October 2023\nVernissage: Wednesday 4th October 6.30 - 9.30 PM\n\n\nOpening Hours:\nMonday – Friday: 11.00 AM – 6.30 PM\nSaturday: 12.30 PM – 6.30 PM; Sunday: Closed\nIn the evocative setting of the Crypt Gallery beneath St. Pancras church in London\, Cris Contini Contemporary presents 'Underground Fever'\, the latest exhibition by the Italian sculptor Michelangelo Galliani.\nMichelangelo Galliani condenses a series of works created in recent years and some unpublished ones with a strong spiritual character. Considering the place that is so suggestive\, the artist would like to create a dialogue and a relationship between two dimensions\, that of life and death.\nThe crypts have always been a burial place but\, above all\, a site where the boundaries merged allowing the living to relive\, even if only for a moment\, with those who had passed on to another dimension.\nThe sculptural works that Galliani has thought of exhibiting seek a dialogue between these dimensions and with the remains of what it was\, reminding us of the vastness and mystery of the cosmos and its continuous rebirth. Because everything that nourishes the depths of the earth always finds its way back to the surface in different forms.\nThis concept is enclosed in works like 'Vanitas': skulls in different marbles from which life is reborn through the sprouting of a new branch. The itinerary winds through the rooms and corridors of the crypt where\, in addition to the works mentioned\, there are others in different marbles that merge and in some cases exploit the very elements of the space. There will also be some explanatory videos through which it will be possible to grasp various aspects of the genesis of a marble work of art\, from the initial phases to the choice of materials up to its creation and definition.\nMore info

DESCRIPTION:October 14 - 22\n\nTimes: 11am – 2pm daily\n\nIn the main body of St Pancras Church above the Crypt Gallery \n\nFREE – Just turn up\n\n \n\nAn intimate video installation by local artist Giuseppe Mario Urso. The work intertwines space and emotion to create a private place where you can observe St Pancras Church and its surroundings from a different point of view. An immersive video experience that turns an enclosed space into a ‘bird hide’ which then reveals the outside world to the watchers.\n\nInspired by the concept of “liminal space” developed by the anthropologist Arnold van Gennep\, the installation functions as an unconventional device to unlock all the restraints accumulated during the lockdown. A liminal space is a transitional place between spaces – a now between before and after.\n\nPeople crave predictability in their life\, but in a liminal space – like in Urso’s work – any predictability is denied. From the outside\, the room appears to be a tiny cube\, but when inside the installation expands and extends the space beyond its claustrophobic walls.\n\nDon’t miss the chance to step inside this wonder-box and be carried away by the artist.\n\n
